14 ways to reduce the carbon footprint of your wedding

It’s no secret that weddings can be all-consuming. But how do you plan a ceremony without all the consuming? More and more couples are organizing wedding celebrations that are high in entertainment but low in carbon emissions. If you’re interested in lessening the environmental footprint of your special day, here are a few tips and tricks to help you go green.

Choose a venue with public transit nearby? Or consider a fun mass transit option to shuttle guests, such as a streetcar or double-decker bus.

Instead of purchasing appliances made in China, ask your guests for “gift in kind” gifts and volunteer to help with various projects either for the wedding or around your house.

Offer organic wines at the reception. (Summerhill Pyramid Winery and Lotusland Winery are two BC options.)
